The most marketed tire in the Nitto tire line, is non other than the Nitto NT555 Tires. There are several factors which contribute to Nitto's #1 spot in regards to the success of the NT555 model. The Nitto NT555 Tire is one of many high performance tires in the Nitto lineup, yet as you might guess there are specific reasons sales of NT555 are superior over other models in the Nitto line. First the Nitto NT555 is one of the most affordable high performance tires in the industry. Especially when challenged by tires within the same performance category. In our opinion and review of this tire we believe that a great selling tire must first and foremost be competitively priced. The NT555 Tires have certainly provided better price points when compared to similar ratings by other brands.
The second most important aspect about the NT555 tires are the technology. This NT555 has a unique tread design that maximizes the amount of rubber that makes contact with the pavement. Essentially the NT555 has been known to have more tire surface area contact than other brands in identical widths. However with that being said there is a small down side that we've found and that is its wet traction. Although the NT555 fairs ok in the rain it wouldn't be our tire of choice for a grocery getter that's expected to be in the rain every time its in the forecast. The tread design of the NT555 is made with smaller wet-traction channels so that the tread blocks are larger which insures a larger surface patch making contact with the tarmac!
The NT555 tires also provides impressive tread life for a high performance tire. There are a couple of major factors which make this happen. First the NT555 has a larger tread rubber tread blocks than many competitor tires which essentially means you have more tire to wear away. Secondly the NT555 Tires utilizes a very logical UTQG rating of 300 which provides roughly 29-35 thousand miles of tread life for high horsepower vehicles such as the Ford Mustang.
Another important factor for the domestic muscle car market is the fact that the NT555 is available in so many wide sizes. The NT555 has sizes as wide as the popular 315/35-17, which will certainly draw attention! Fortunately the 1994 and newer Mustang models have plenty of room for such tire sizes. In case you're not familiar with how wide a 315 metric width is, lets provide it in inches. The 315/35-17 is a whopping 12.56 inches wide! If you shopping Mustang Wheels you will need at least a 17X10 wheel size to run this width. These are also available in NT555R Drag radials for maximum dry traction.
Our personal opinion is that the Nitto NT555 Tires are one of the best values on the market in most sizes and as such are one of our cornerstone tires.
