It's a tough choice. How do you tell what's a good
tire and what's not? For many, brand is the only way to feel any assurance that
the whole lot isn't going to fall apart as you try to prove to your buddy that
your Mustang really will hit 155mph before the limiter kicks in.
Now, if you've got a couple hours to spare, you can always fall asleep
while reviewing some blog entries that you'll find online.
Here's some info to think about:
Nexen has been around for a long time - about 30
years.
They are made in Korea which is the general locale for most of the raw material
nowadays; (Let's face it, there aren't any rubber plants in Stuttgart or
Maranello).
They are ZR-rated, which tells us that they are are made to a very high standard
of construction and your handling will be correspondingly sharp. Tread design,
sidewall construction, compound mix and extra steel belts are contributory
factors to the overall longevity and performance of these tires.
The directional tread pattern gives better wet weather traction but we would be hard
pressed to give them any points for all-season capability.
A 340 tread-wear rating is excellent for a tire of this nature!! Most other
high-performance tires are rated at 280 or 300 tops. With the 400 tread-wear
rating, most drivers are averaging 40,000 miles!
Do the research. You're getting a tire that's rated
with a higher tread-wear rating, yet is priced SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than brands
like Goodyear and BFGoodrich.
